I've successfully rebuilt one fork, inserting a brand new stanchion into the right-hand-side fork member.
It fitted perfectly, sliding up and down like a dream.
The left-hand-side fork member is proving troublesome.
My old Triumph workshop manual and Haynes manual say the stanchions are the most likely fork components to be bent in an accident.
But I think the left hand fork member is slightly out of true.
When fitted with the original shuttle valve from the old (slightly bent) left-hand-stanchion, the new (and straight) stanchion gets stuck half way down the fork member.
I've tried all combinations - swapping the old left-hand shuttle valve with the old right-hand shuttle valve, and the other new stanchion and each time it gets stuck in the left hand fork member.
I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that the left-hand fork member is slightly warped.
I'm not sure what to do - I think I will post a question on the Brit Bike Forum and see if anyone has any suggestions.
