The first carburetter has been stripped, cleaned and reassembled.
It took about four hours - most of the time taken up by trying to clean all the nooks and crannies.
I'm reasonably pleased with the result - although the parts that are most difficult to reach are still not as shiny as I would like.
Even so, it's a big improvement - if the rest of the bike looks this good when it's done, I'll be really happy.
The carburetter parts arrived this morning - less than 24 hours after I ordered them from Hitchcock's Motorcycles.
I'm really pleased with this service. All the bits I need are there and they were well-packaged and bubble-wrapped.
I can't wait to start refurbishing!
Apart from being rather grubby, the carburetters are not in bad shape.
One has a wrong size O-ring, and the screw heads have been abused. But the needles are in good condition and so are all other major parts.
I've decided to replace all the screws, washers, O rings, filters and drain plugs.
The rest should clean up ok.
I'm ordering all replacement parts from Hitchcock's Motorcycles - they have an easy on-line ordering system and all the parts I need.
