Many replacement parts would be cheaper were the Bonneville a less sophisticated bike.
Twin carbs mean it needs six cables just to control the bike's fuel supply and mixture.
A main upper throttle cable controls a further two lower cables - one to each carb. Another set of three cables does a similar job for the choke.
Some Bonnie owners apparently don't bother with a choke, preferring instead to flood the carbs before starting the engine each time.
I'm not one of them. So I'm replacing all six cables.
At £9 a pop, this soon adds up. More so when you add the cost of front brake (£15) and clutch (£12.50) cables.
Fortunately, however, I can salvage and reuse the junction boxes that connect the cable sets together.
All cables were purchased from Len Craig & Sons, who are rapidly becoming my preferred spares dealer.
